Default Re: Ford to shut down Windsor casting plant as part of reorganization

Ford is my favorite manufacturer, but they've shot themselves in the foot with horrible product planning and execution, quality control, and Bill Ford does nothing but cut back on everything. How can you make money if you keep cutting everything including programs to ensure quality.
Here's how...

They have plants that are capable of making 200,000 vehicles annually that are only making 100,000... This is a waste of resources that could be better used elsewhere...

The other point that was hit on was the relationship between the scientists and engineers... its been my experience that these don't like being close to one another because the further they are removed, the less ownership they take of the final product. When you put them together, you force them to work out their issues BEFORE it hits the production line, this is key to timing the assembly line as well as warranties and first run %s.

I also like the idea of streamlining suppliers... the logistics for these things have got to be mindboggling, surely there could be better inventory management and mutual dependence by limiting the number of suppliers.
