How did you know that your oil pump was on it's way out? I notice the oil pressure gauge in the dash reading low sometimes at idle but moves back to normal when I rev or start driving? Is that a sign that it might be time to change it? I have a 1990 LX with about 147,000KM on it.
My '89 GT i had did that and when i was replacing the oil pump i pulled off the bearing caps and found that the #2 bearing was completely scored, #1 and 3 were pretty bad also - the others showing some scoring and copper but not as bad. Increased clearances in the bearings usually causes low pressure until you rev it up, especially if oil pressure drops after you've warmed it up is a good sign. Another way to test this is to put in a thicker weight oil like 20w50 and see how much oil pressure goes up. A pump with excessive clearance or bad pressure relief valve will have low pressure all the way up in RPM.
