I had an old hood that had pins and I used the stock latch still just as a secondary latch, although it probably wasn't needed. Yep!!! The hood on my fairlane is all wrinkled cuz the last owner did that.
The other thing ya gotta watch for, keep an eye on those R clips AT ALL TIMES. Was working on the Stang last year at Fun Ford in Norwalk, and I got in a bad habit of setting the clips on the cowl panel. Fixed the problem, took off down the street for a test run with no hood. When I got back, guess what? No R clips!!! DOH!
