Don't force it (i.e. use the bellhousing bolts to pull it in). Take the trans back down and make sure that you've got the converter fully engaged. You'll have to line up two set of splines plus the pump support to get the converter all the way in. It can be frustrating, but keep working the converter and it should go in.

Lay your two converters side by side and make measurements all all engagement points, internal and external to make sure you've got a correct converter.

Lastly, after you do get it installed, make sure you've got about 1/8" free play between the converter and flexplate to ensure you don't bind the pump or wipe out your engine thrust.
