The motors they came with varied a bit. 2.3L SOHC 4 banger, I think some came with the 2.8L OHV V-6, and finally, they also came with the 302ci OHV V-8. The 302 changed name to 5.0 in 1978 was rated at 139hp @ 3200rpm and 248ft/lb tq @ 1800rpm. The Cobra II was availible with T-Tops, Sunroof, and I think I saw one with a dual sunroof once. 0-60 9.0 sec. 1/4mile 17.0 at 78 I think. They came with a small (369cfm I think) 2bbl carb, and the most restricted heads I have ever seen. Header's are hard to find, as room in the engine bay is almost non-existant in the V-8. They also had an optional restrictive dual exhaust. Curb weight was about 2700lbs, making the Mustang II the lightest Mustang ever made.
I had a 1977 302 powered Mustang II, which was essentially the same as the Cobra. I had the C-4 auto, although you could also get a 4spd. My little guy pulled really hard out of the hole, but after 4000rpms he dropped power fast. I topped mine out at 117. Of course, it did have 180,000 on it at the time. Still ran smooth and quiet, just leaked everywhere. Oh, muffler fell off, +10mph top speed. Talk about restrictive. All in all, I really liked the little bugger, it's just the uni-body was notorious for rusting out and weakening.
