I had similar problems with my 66 convertible when i took posseion late last summer. The fist thing I did was order a complete front end kit from Mustang's Unlimited, including 620 lb springs which lowered the front approx 2", Tie rod ends, ball joints, upper and lower control arms, spring seats sway bar bushings . in other words the whole enchilada. I used the Shelby template to lower the upper control arms, and later installed Monroe gas matic shocks all around. I changed the tires to 185/60R14, this is just temporary till I can get some nice 17" wheels. The rear shackles need new bushing, maybe but thats another day. I changed the steering wheel to 14" leccarra. This car handles great now. the steering feels tighter and the whole car feels better. This all cost about a $1000 installed. and the second best improvment so far to this car I suggest you get this done soon before you become disenchanted and sell your dream to someone else.
