First check to make sure there is gear oil in the rear end. Should be level with the plug. Could be bearings in the the rear end or could be rear wheel bearings too. All this stuff is probably 33 years old and so any could need rebuild or replacement. Rear wheel bearings you can probably do yourself except for pressing onto axle. Rear center section rebuild probably reqires a pro. If you do need that consider an ideal gear ratio and a Traction-lock if you're into performance mods at all.
