j's69, I'd do a compressiopn check and possibly a leak down test before I'd do a rebuild. Low compression or bad leak down would confirm the bad rings or bad valves for sure. The PCV valve as mentioned earlier could also be the culprit. I have a CC 268 HE single pattern cam and it seems really good for the street with lots of low end torque and fairly good to 5500 rpm. Thats with a Performer intake and 600 Holly 4160. Put in a windage tray, crank scraper, CC roller tip rockers and maybe some pocket ported/gasket matched 351W heads. Add an electronic ignition and you'll be well on your way. Oh, yeah, headers and 2 1/2" exhaust with Flows. This'll put you low 14's or high 13's, I think. It sure did me. I may have a small wt. advantage though. Good luck with the rebuild but check the compression first before diving in. My $.02.
