The engine displacement does effect the power that the engine puts out. To a degree.
You can make a 289 sing now, trust me I know. Its a great little engine, it has the same attributes as the others in the WIndsor family.
It all depends on the tune of the engine. Nothing impress's the newer generation bow tie boys like telling them after you beat them that you only got a 289 under the hood.
For some reason they think the ol 289's are slouches.
