Like someone said earlier, the 351C and 351M/400 are not the same block. They are based on the same design, but the 351M/400 is taller and consequently wider, I think it is 1 inch taller and 1.5 wider but that is memeory not fact. And of course the 351M/400 takes the big block bell housing where the 351C uses the small block bell housing.
I am not sure what can be wedged into an early mustang with out mods. I think the general consensus is a 351W block based motor. But I have seen such mustangs equipped with FE 427's and even one with a Chev 454 which is really big.
