Yes, the Edelbrock water pump that I have now is helpful. Don't ever buy a FlowKooler water pump. I had one of those and it lasted only about 20,000 miles. FlowKooler cost about $65 is and made in Taiwan. The Edelbrock has ball bearings instead of brass bushings and is much higher quality and cools about the same for about $165.
The set up I have now cools extremely well. Recently, my thermostat stuck wide open and my car ran like squat. It was cooling too well. Took me a little while to figure out what was wrong since it coincided with a new carb installation. I wasn't used to too much cooling capacity.
Car runs great now and won't go over 180 even hot lapping at the drag strip.
