I use a CompCams 268 HE in my '66. The truth is, without a good rebuild, decent heads, intake, carb, headers, and exhaust, the cam by itself won't show too much improvement.
If you want to do it incrementally, start with free flowing exhaust, Performer or Stealth intake and a 600 cfm Holley or Road Demon. Save the new cam for when you do the rebuild.
Electronic ignition would be a good addition as well, and will always be there when you rebuild.
When you do get the cam, don't make the "bigger is better" mistake. Best idea is to call the tech line of your favorite cam grinder, tell them your application, and then take their advice. Believe me, they want happy cam customers.
