Takes hp to get top speed. Weight isn't a factor when it comes to top speed applications, hp and drag is.
I don't know, sounds like a suped up Civic. That thing is going to be as jittery as a chick waiting to be dumped after 3 lattes in a coffee house.
I drove my little '91 Escort GT up above the 110 marker a couple times, and let me tell you, there is a WORLD of difference with the addition of a few hundred pounds. My Mustang is hugely more stable at higher speeds.
Oh, and if you want performace out of a little car, you could always by a 1965 Shelby 427 Cobra, or a CSX2000. About 2,000 lbs and 450hp at the crank. Tops out at about 160mph due to drag, don't think you'll catch me trying to prove that either. The Series 1 is along the lines of what you describe as well.
