All in all I'd say folks here handled this joke alot better than a similar joke that went on with
slashdot.org ,
www.userfriendly.org , and
segfault.org . Basicly they started a week early letting people know they had gotten "registered letters" from a company that "must remain anonymous for now".
The gag was that supposedly both segfault and uf were taken down. Of course the news site (slashdot) stayed up to post about it to make it more believeable. Many people found this to be a breach of trust.
I just found it funny..
Same as the mustang site bunch...
Both gags were well thought out and well written, which contributed to their feel of "authenticity". That is the fun of 4/1. If you aren't had, or almost had even, then you are either very sharp or
PaRaNoId. If you got mad when you saw the prank (but before you knew it as such), understandable. If you got mad AFTER you knew it to be a joke, because it WAS a joke, I pity you.
Anyway..sorry for the ramblings..read all the other boards, and now I'm bored...damn work..I could be playing with my stang...
