I've seen/heard both good and bad reports on them. The common problem with that kit was driveability issues that result from putting the MAF directly after a 90 degree bend in the tubing causing weird signals. I believe ATI has addressed this, and any good installer should be able to work around it.
As a whole, I believe that intercooling is a good thing for forced induction.
I have heard/seen lots of really good things with the new Paxton Novi series as well.
Either way you go, the key is in the tuning. There is no reason you should have trouble bolting most blower kits to a mod motor. Let me know if you have any more specific questions.
