That's exacly what that plate does. It allows you to mount the larger transmission to the '65 and earlier 144 / 170 / 200 blocks. It provides the proper mounting pattern and offset to do it. I've been running it behind my '65 200 for 11 years now, and have never had a problem.

You use a clutch disk from any of the following:

87-92 mustang with 2.3L.
84-88 Mustang SVO.
79-83 Mustang 2.3L, 4spd except turbo.
79-82 Mustang with turbo 4&5spd.
74-78 Mustang 2.3L with 4spd.

They all should come up with the same p/n and are the correct 8 1/2" disk with larger spline to make it work.
