Post How much HP can it handle

How much power can a factory style rear end handle. I have a an aluminum cover that doudles as a brace. It has 3:73's but i want to go to a 4:10. I am building a hot motor and want to know if the rear will handle it or if i need to go with a 9"?

Well...to me it sends up a red flag that you're going to run carbed with an AOD. Not to mention dual quads. I'm running into all kinds of problems with an AOD and a single Carter 4bbl (which has a Ford linkage adapter fot A/T's and Holley doesn't). As for the rear end, depends how you build it. If you went full zoot with a spool, 31 spline axles, C-clip eliminators, cap girdles, etc. etc, you could run some serious power. Some 9 sec. cars have 8.8"s under them. If you wanted more than that I'd consider a 9". I'd be more concerned with the AOD than the rear end with all that power.
