![]() Well, yesterday was the day. The day I would FINALLY get my car down to the strip to get some times.
For those of you not aware, I have been assembling my 89 GT for 2 years now, almost to the day. Anyway, it was an absolute perfect morning to go racing. I get to my shop about 7:30, do some finishing touches to the roll control, and I am done. I decide it might be a good idea to do a test burnout to make sure everything is working correctly, so, I did just that. Well, this is when it got really fun. As I completed I heard a nice knocking sound. Where? COMING FROM THIS BRAND NEW MOTOR! Popped the valve covers only to discover 1 broken pushrod, another ruined pushrod, and more metal shavings than I cared too. Problem? No oiling in the top of the motor at all. Possibly plugged restrictors. Ahhhh, another 3 weeks at least. I love waiting. ------------------ SVO siamesed 351 stroked to 417ci,Yates heads, solid roller,Trans King glide and a little blue bottle of giggle gas. My Car |

Well HOPEFULLY I will have it back by then. If so there is a chance that I may be able to bring it up for some tuning. That's probably a big "if" as it is hard to tell exactly how bad the damage is. With the amount of shavings I saw, the damage could be from moderate to severe, wont really know until next weekend when I run it back down to the builder. Hopefully the cam isn't damaged, lifters, cyl. walls, etc;. At the very least I will have new bearings installed and everything cleaned up. As far as what might have happened. My guess is that either the oil restricters are plugged (unlikely since there are 2) or else the oiling set-up was improperly assembled. This thing isn't oiling at all on any of the rockers. Argh, I hate thinking about it. I will keep everyone posted. ------------------ SVO siamesed 351 stroked to 417ci,Yates heads, solid roller,Trans King glide and a little blue bottle of giggle gas. ![]() That bites man, sorry to hear it.
My dad had his 427 professionally rebuilt, they installed the f***in cam bearings in backwards, it lost oil pressure just like nothing flat. My dad shut it down right away when it did, but he's pretty sure that's why he took out a rod. [This message has been edited by Capri306 (edited 05-08-2001).] |

![]() I have an external pump and my oil pressure never dropped below 70psi. On my setup, there is a feed that runs in the motor at the front which oils the mains, rods, etc.
There is another line that runs just behind the head on the passenger side. My oil pressure runs just behind this point. So, has to be something wrong past the gauge. ------------------ SVO siamesed 351 stroked to 417ci,Yates heads, solid roller,Trans King glide and a little blue bottle of giggle gas. My Car |
