![]() I just bought the car I have wanted for years, a Black 2000 GT. Although it is pretty quick, I need some help figuring out ways to wake it up a little more without voiding the warranty. I already put in a K&N, but that is it. As for removing the silencer, where is it exactly? I looked for it with my mechanic, and we didn't see one. Thanks for the help.

![]() The silencer is the rubber tube that comes off the air box running into the fenderwell. On our cars it actually hurts HP so I wouldn't bother taking it off.
As far as your warrenty goes you need to find out from your dealership what they will tolerate. ![]() The way the warranty system works pretty much every single mod has the chance of voiding your warranty (even your K&N). However, if the dealership cannot prove that your modification was the direct cause of the problem, the warranty remains intact. As for removing your silencer, I have seen dyno sheets that show a consistant gain of 2-3 "free" rwhp (but that doesn't mean all cars will gain from removing it). It is located exactly where Mustang92 described, just remove the airbox surrounding your K&N, and pull out the big rubber snorkel. If you don't like it you can always just put it back.
As for other mods, you might want to start with the common "problem" areas like the stock H-pipe, gears, and shifter. If you want a better sound slap on a catback as well. My suggestions for the above replacements are (in order of appearance): Bassani or BBK X/H-pipe, FRPP 3.73's, Steeda Tri-ax, and Magnaflow/pack catback... ![]() If I can offer one piece of advice, it would be..... Do Not Go Back to that Mechanic! Who was it, Stevie Wonder? OK, sorry. He just shouldn't be there if he can't answer that question. The silencer should be next to the firewall on your passenger side. Just follow the intake hose.

BBK X/H-pipe, FRPP 3.73's, Steeda Tri-ax, and Magnaflow/pack catback... I have the steeda shifter and the gears... you will like that a lot more than the stock granny shifter and gears. My exhaust comes next.. Anyways... you need to plan out what you want your car to be when your finished. (you know, blown, sprayed, mainly stock) that way you dont waste money. Like buying pulleys and a cold air when your going to put a blower on one day... its a waste. Trust me... not having a plan for your car is going to waste you a lot of money. ![]() |

![]() First off, Cindi, Fun Ford Weekend here is a pretty good time, especially since you can count on weather in the 60's and 70's while the rest of the country is freezing their tales off.
Secondly, I have no plans on a charger or even NOS. This is my daily driver, but I am tired of listening to my moron friends who all have chevy's giving me a hard time because their Z28/Trans Ams have a few tenths on me. Again, thanks for any tips! |

![]() Gears are always a good way to go to make your car quicker without the dealership knowing. I don't know if you have a 5 speed or and AOD. If you don't plan on going with nitrous or S/C, 4.10s would be good. With the super tall 5th gear in the new GT's, it won't hurt your mileage that bad - maybe 2 or 3 mpg at most.
On the freeway with my 5 speed and the stock 3.27's, the tach only showed a little over 3000rpms at an indicated speed of over 130 mph in 5th (stock speedo reads a few mph high at high speeds).
