Thumbs down T minus one week till big boom!

Combination of nitrous and no knowledge about it will undoubtedly end up in a dead mustang.

A friend of mine whoisn't very mechanically inclined was talked into buying a wet nitous kit from a co-worker a couple of weeks ago. All he knows about it is that it is a Nitrous Works kit and supposedly is about $700 worth of stuff.
The way he described it to me was "it has all kinds of stuff in it" and is adjustable from 75-200hp. He doesnt know if it is a wet or dry kit, although he said he THOUGHT it had the plate with the spraybar that goes between the upper and lower intake.

Its an 89GT with 145,000miles and a slipping AOD, . Completely stock except for h-pipe and mufflers, all original gaskets (including heads)and bearings. Fuel system is all stock too, down to the 88lph pump and regulator.
Supposedly it has an adjustable regulator in the kit though.

He said that its a really safe kit because it has the throttle activation switch, a toggle switch and also he said that it has something that monitors the fuel pressure and if its not high enough then it wont send any nitrous. I've never heard of this before, but i'm no nitrous guru by any means at all.

He's having someone at his work install the kit and some 3.73's at the same time next week for $100.

He said that he mostly wants to do this for looks and so he can purge the nitrous at a stoplight, I immediately backhanded him and told him to sell the stang and buy a honda if he's going for the "looks fast" thing. he's even got a "Got Boost?" sticker on his back window. I guess he didnt realize that nitrous isn't boost

I think me being off at college and only seing him every now and then has led to him hanging out with his full idiot friends (im only half an idiot).

so which do you guys think will blow up first?
1.the slipping AOD
2. the 145k pistons
3. the 145k head gaskets
4. the stock intake
5. other

Ok you say tranny, some might say pistons. I'm gonna with a colaborative explosive effort on this one, I say, since hes not mechanically inclined he doesnt know the aod is slippin. He's gonna spray the 200 shot for sure (we all know he will) after the tranny gives up and he's not mioving like he thinks he should, he's gonna hammer it, drop at least three of thoe 140k cylinderes, blow the head gaskets (both sides) and possibly disenergrate the stock intake all in one pass. My suggestion. Invest in a video camera, cuase this is gonna be fun to watch,

Brad

lol. Got one, and it will most definately be there.

I talked to him today and tried talking him into a lentech and a fresh shortblock. He said money isnt really an issue but I still couldn't convince him.
I finally convinced him to atleast freshen up the top end and get some GT40P heads from Summit ($539 assembled) and he wants a Trick Flow street intake.

So hopefully the stock pistons will hold up until he gets a new shortblock.

I also told him that if he goes above a 75 shot with the condition his car is in right now then I will NOT help him with any of the work because it's his own fault for getting too greedy with it.

We'll soon see..........

Personally i think its going to be the AOD that goes first. But i think that he'll loose a piston or connecting rod at the same time as the engine hits redline without a tranny.

I dont know what's up with this guy. He's a good guy but he likes to tell a few lies, well more than a few.
Christmas of 2000, his parents got him a Cobra intake. suprisingly it never showed up, he said they lost it in the mail.
Last year, he ordered a Steeda G-trak suspension setup, never came
2 years ago "I'm buying a new 750GSX-R" He buys a 93 600cc
the list goes on and on.

anyway, now he says he's gonna have the gears installed next week. i know he has the gears themselves because i was there when he bought them from another friend of mine. But he's gonna wait to have the nitrous installed because he's "gonna get heads/cam/intake first" uhh, I'll believe it when I see the parts and he better be ordering me something too because I'll probably end up doing most of the install.

I know I shouldn't talk like this about one of my friends, but enough is enough

AOD first, slipping from the AOD will cause a very high RPM. As the RPM's get to 6250 the computer will start to shut down the fuel. (not good with nitrous). Therefore the pistons and head gaskets will see some, ok, a lot of detonation causing the pistons to get nice big holes in them and the head gaskets to just blow sky high. And what the hell, ill even say the front of the crankshaft falls off. The inkake should be fine. It will just be along for the ride. OHHHH YEAHHH. I forgot to say when the nitrous backfire happens his fender will light up like a christmas tree in a really nice fireball and really screw up the paint job on his R/F fender. I think ive covered all of it. I could get into the oil from the big hole in the block getting on his tires causing him to lose control and hit a gaurdrail, but that would just be going to far.

I'm gonna bet that it'll be none of the above.

The 88lph fuel pump won't be able to keep up and the fuel pressure switch will shut off the system before it gets going, resulting in disappointment.
If the fuel pressure switch doesn't do it's job I'm betting on catastrophic failure of the tranny, then the head gaskets, and a lot of smoke.

Since it's a wet system, and he doesn't seem to be that bright, I'm betting on the intake.

Take care,
-Chris

I say that the car will be so messed up after the nitrous explostion, that we will not be able to determine what went first. So, I say all of it May I add a few body parts to the list (of the car's)?
