Default how to tell what kind of GT-40 heads

I came across an add in the paper a few minutes ago that has gt-40 heads for sale for $450 canadian. How do i tell if they are gt-40P heads or regular gt-40 heads and which is better?

You saw that ad too? Its someone in Leamington, makes me wonder who it is. As far as identifying them, all I know to look for is the casting on the underside of the head in the pushrod area, and 3 or 4 vertical bars by the exhaust ports by the lower head bolts. Hope that helps.

on the front and back of the head:
3 vertical lines=GT-40
4 vertical lines=GT-40P

There will also be a "GT" stamped near the #1 spark plug hole.

There's lots of debate as to which are better, the main differences are that the P head has a smaller combustion chamber and a 1.46" exhaust valve whereas the regular GT-40 has a 1.54". The spark plug angle is different for the P heads and makes some headers not fit. I've seen tests that had the non P head outflowing the P head, especially on the exhaust side but there are people on this board who will disagree with me.

Either way, they're a good deal and you'll pick up a ton of power over the stockers.

yeah the add says there is 2 sets. Would the p heads fit with the stock headers? Everything on my car is totally stock. Would it be a waste of money to put heads on and what kind of power could i expect to pick up?

Hey joe i got my mustang back today and they did an awesome job

THX for the info

If they are the P's then you need different headers. For a stock motor, they're ok, but in all honesty I don't think they're worth the trouble (depending on what they are or what's done to them of course).

Hey James, did you drive your car tonight? At crappy tire or anything?

It never does end. That I know from experience. So your mom had to park next to me huh? :-) Looks great! They did a really good job on it. I just wish I could get my car's body done sometime like that. I've got a lead on a cowl hood and GT spoiler for it, with a mint hatch, trouble is my beater isn't ready yet.

I tried calling that ad, and never got an answer, I wonder who it is...
