Talking Going to the Dyno...

I've got a similar setup, and I've got a date with a dyno this Wednesday at 3. I'll post the curve and we'll both figure out where to shift.

What cam do you have?

6500 seems high. I would think with a mild cam you would be more in the 5500 range.

With the stock computer, you're not hitting the rev limiter? I'd like to see what the dyno says.

Is it just me, or does that seem awfully high for a stock bottom-end?

No, it's not just you, Jeb.

Seems high for the cam, bottom end, and maybe the valve train.

There has to be an error with the tact or something.

My car does not have a rev limiter .....I dont know if the previous owner did something to it or what?

I was using the stock tach but I though it must be off. I went home and hooked an aftermarket tach up and my tach shows to be dead on up to 4000 but then about 500rpms off from there up so my car still pulls up to 6000rpms instead of 6500.

That still seems high to me. It appears I will have to shift at about 6000rpms.

Oh yeah....I have the stock cam.

the stock rev limiter is 6250RPM. So I'm sure your tach is just off and you arent quite there yet even though its reading 6500

With the stock cam, mine always ran the best at the track shifting it at like 5400 (on an autometer tach).

And seeing how our combo's are pretty much the same, thats what I would reccomend for you too.

good luck
- Drew

I don't really see a problem with running the stock bottom end to 6500rpm. I'd be more concerned about the valvetrain.

Wigged out E7's can flow up to about 220cfm with CNC jobs and bigger valves. With the stock cam, I'd expect best shift performance to be below 6000rpm.

The stock tach can get really crazy up in the r's. I took mine to fuel cutoff to see how far the tach was off. I hit 7000rpm on the factory tach before the 6250rpm fuel cutoff kicked in.

You will never make peak power at 6000 RPM with a stock cam.

My combo is a rebuilt 302 with an E-303 with 1.72 rockers, mildly ported TFS TW heads, Holley Systemax intake, 65 mm throttle body, 24 lb injectors, C&L 73 meter, and equal shorties.

My peak power on the dyno was at 5800 RPM. Which means I should shift at approx. 6000 RPM for the best time slip.

If you are reading your stock tachometer, it is waaaay off. They all are. Mine reads 7 grand when my Autometer says 6000.
