				 | Funny thing happened in Chicago... Well I'm up here in Chicago for work when I happen to hear 2 kids (18-22?) talking about how slow 96-98 Mustangs are... I start laughing quietly and continue to listen... Seems they both have imports, and while they won't race the 99 and above Mustang, they claim to lay waste to every 96-98 GT they see.... It was my call to action... "Hey guys, I couldn't help but overhear your discussion. What kind of cars do you have?" Both of them have civics with "chip, intake and exhaust". "You mean a chip, cold air kit and a muffler with a large exhaust tip" "Yea whatever..." "What do you run in the quarter mile?" "13s" I chuckle... "Have you ever been to the track?" "No, but a guy I know who runs 12s beat me by a carlength..." "Oh, OK... Well just for your information, until you actually have a timeslip, I wouldn't be quoting quarter mile times. And by the way, I happen to know a guy with a 98 GT who would rape you with 5 people in his car and groceries in the trunk." "There's no way dude, 96-98 Mustangs are dead slow..." "Well, whatever you'd like to believe, but to nearly quote Forrest Gump: Mustangs are like a box of chocolates, you never know what you'll pull up next to..." With that I walked away and made a mental note to someday move somewhere where people don't recognize my car.

				 | A friend of mine had a good one the other day! We watched a bunch of ricers drive by, they all had big wings, funny paint, goofy looking exhaust, and the wheels looked like they had no tires. He said, "Hey, I didnt know the circus was in town, look at all the clown cars." I had never heard that before, I died laughing. That is a fitting decsription though. Now everytime I see a rice mobile, I just picture a clown driving! heheheh Andy

				 | Chicago rice encounter Hammer Good post...thanks. Your encounter points up the fact that for many ricers, ignorance is bliss. They know nothing but what other ricers tell them. I loved your totally accurate description of rice-boy mods: A chip, a cold air kit and a big exhaust tip that they describe as 'a chip, intake and exhaust'. Well done. The quarter-mile times were equally amusing. A friend claims he does 12's and he beat me by a carlength. Blind leading blind and the sad part is that they really believe all this nonsense. No wonder there's such a chasm between ricers and Mustangers. Your report from the front bears out the misinformation and plain idiocy that fuels it. |
