Default would yo buy this car?

I'm looking at buying an 86 GT with 156k on car. Repainted at some point, but some rust on hatch in typical area. It has a 90 motor with unknown miles, T-tops, 5sd, MAC headers with flowmasters, subframe and strut tower, B&M shifter, Lakewood struts, Accel ignition, and crane RR's that need adjustment.

After talking with the owner he said when he got the car it had no emissions components what so ever and ran like crap. He added the air tube for the heads, egr, carcoal canister and other stuff to get it running a lot better. He said he also did custom work to the tranny and added a 1st and 2nd gear ratio out of a Turbo Coupe for better acceleration with the 2.73 gears.

He's asking $2500 for it. Is that a good price or should I try to talk him down?

Thanks, Craig

What you want to check are the floorboards and torque boxes. If they look good, underbody rust is minimal (NO HOLES IN FLOOR BOARDS) and the interior/exterior look good then go for it. Remember, most people ask for a few hundred more then they would take so point out all the bad things and tell him you where only looking to spend around $2,000.00 Negotiate price from there.

Hope this helps!!
