Default Got a hefty speeding fine last night!!

I was coming home from picking up a pizza and going pretty fast to keep it warm by the time I got home.
I got busted going 77 in a 45!!...ouch!!
It's a $188 fine and I will probably have to go to a departmental hearing for excessive speed(31mph-over).
Does anyone know what they usually do?
I think they have a choice of:

1. taking a safe driver test
2. re-taking driver's license test again
3. 30 day suspension

Has anyone gotten busted for going this fast and what was the punishment?

My G/f was pissesd!! I said "hey, at least it was in your Taurus and not the mustang or I would have been going even faster!!
She didn't find any comfort or humor in that.

It depends on what state you live in. The last ticket I got was 85 in a 65....in a Buick Electra. But anyway, I had to retake the written portion of my test. That is Pennsylvania's way to handle it. PA just enacted new legislation on speeding in construction zones; over 11 mph the construction speed limit and your fine is doubled and a 15 day suspension.

25mph over the speed limit is criminal speeding here.

I got tagged for 95 in a 50( had just reached the top of third gear) LUCKY for me, my passanger is my neighbor who happens to be a cop. He said he would try and get me out of it. Ended up just getting a speeding ticket and was on my way in about 6 minutes. Talk about pulling that one out of my ***.

I'll have to keep these new laws in mind when I'm driving. I'm glad you said something about it. Now I'll REALLY have to watch my speed through construction zones...and you know there are a TON in PA

11 mph in a construction zone .......well heck the construction zones cover about 90% of Pa. roads ...........might as well just go by a metro

82gt ....in Pa. 31 miles above the speed limit requires a suspention (15 -30 days)and/or a drivers test .......and 5 pionts ....you'll have to go to a departmental hearing

depending on how many pionts you have on your record ,you might get additional days on the suspention.......if you go over 6 points then you have to go to departmental hearing and they will decide on whether you take a test or get suspended based on your driving record ....

i have a long record with pa. ....(been there, arrested for that)....if i learn any more of pa. laws i'm going to take the bar exame and become a layer

That sucks, 82 GT. Don't know what to tell ya though, cause I live in a diff state. I don't know if this will make you feel better, but, in a way, you guys got it easier (pricewise). In GA, for 30 (or greater) mph over speed limit, you can be provided with a free pass to jail (though it depends on who pulls you over). Technically speaking, any speeding over limit is automatic $100. If you were caught around here for doing what you did, you probably wouldn't have gone to jail, but'd be paying a 3-$400 fine. The good thing though is that you will (at least in my county) USUALLY not get pulled over on the hwy for anything less than 10 mph over limit (unless they're doing a speed trap thing-- which they HARDLY ever do) and they don't sit in bushes where you can't see them (legally, they can't).

A friend of mine with a red 92 Z28 just got a ticket (last week) for doing 79 in a 55 on the interstate (out of all the flowing traffic, he was singled out in a laser speed trap), he'll be paying probably around $300.

Old guy with 87 GT , I didn't have any points on my license until now. I had a clean record for about 4 yrs.
I'm hoping that when I go to the departmental hearing that they will look at that fact and let me go with just taking a test without the suspension.
An insurance company once told me that a suspension is as bad as a DUI on your driving record. I know because years ago I had a suspension and paid out the *** for insurance until the points finally came off.

to answer yer question.........YES

6/01 i got popped for an 73mph in a 35(whoops!) almost lost my license. the law here in IL says 40+over is immediate grounds for suspension AND time served(30 days i believe)

anyways it ended up costing me just over $1000, traffic school, and a bunch of other tickets(cop tore my stang apart) just to keep my license.

Cool

Try 99 in a 45, on a holiday weekend, on a substandard highway. I got arrested, cuffed, and stuffed. The girl riding with me had to drive my car home to my wife and convince her of what just happened. Meanwhile I get an 85mph ride to the copper house. I signed my self out, then the deputiy wrote it up as a speeding ticket and that got droped to a NMV and it cost me $80.00 and never made it to my record. Gotta love Louisiana.

My first ticket in PA for 86 in a 55 (16 years old, licensed for about three months) was a fine of about $190 and a 15-day license suspension. I forget how many points were involved, but you do not get a choice of what you want to do here in PA - they decide that for you at the departmental hearing.

Here is the web address for the PA point system fact sheet. It sounds like you're living in PA??? Pay attention to the section titled "Excessive Speeding" and "Under the Age of 18" (if you are younger than 18).

http://www.dmv.state.pa.us/pdotforms...rms/dl-71p.pdf

If you are under 18, my sympathies. Looks like a 90-day suspension will be imposed.

I haven't been caught going my fastest over the speed limit yet (I've over trippled the limit before)

In Texas, if you go 20 over the limit, they can arrest you for wreckless driving.

A little over a year ago I passed a undercover cop, who was in a new Jeep Liberty, doing 75 in a 55. I had only had my Mustang for 5 days, and I just had got on it to see what it could do. He stopped me, and I started giving him the whole "Yes Sir", and "No Sir" bit. He let me go without a ticket, but I did get a pretty good cussin' from him.

Last week a North Carolina pig gave me a 75 dollar ticket(the "yes sir, no sir" bit didn't work on him) just for not having a seat belt on. That's a little tooooooo much if ya ask me.

"Under cover cop let me go"

"North Carolina Pig gave me a ticket"

mustang II460 ....i was wondering if you were gonna jump in on this thread

82 gt ........since you don't have a record then you should be in good shape ,just be honest and be prepared for the worst when you go for the hearing

last year i got a ticket for 81 in a 45 ,i had to go to departmental hearing for the ticket and for points acumulation ...........i got three different tickets last year and my driving record is like three pages long from when i was younger

when i went to the hearing ..... i was honest ,i admited that i was just driving fast and didn't try to present excuses ,i asked that she consider my livlyhood is dependant on my licence ,and i told her i "was" prepared to have my licence suspended (becouse i knew i was guilty as he*l)

well long story short ,i was sentanced to take the test over ......she cut me a magor break

so just be honest and up front ......... worst comes to worse you might have to walk for a couple of weeks

I have been pulled over twice, but it should have been a lot more than that. I can remember going passed some cops at 15 over and they didn't even flinch. Last Sunday I was driving 80 in a 55 and a car comes riding on my *** like i'm doing 10. I get over and was about to flip him off when it turns out to be a state trooper. I guess lucky for me i was following a truck and the trooper had somewhere to be. One time i got on my bike and just had to see what it could do. This was the one and only time I did this, but I got it on a long straight stretch of road and went 90 over (145 in a 55). Screamed by a cop. I'm thinking he just said 'ah screw it' Good luck with everything.

What's that country song...old enough to know better, but still too young to care?

If you're not under 18 and have a pretty clean record, you should be OK. I've had three points-related suspensions in the past. I'm batting 1 for 3 in departmental hearings. They took a 15-day suspension for the 86 in a 55, and later another 15-day for the second accumulation of six or more points. But on the third accumulation of six or more points, the hearing officer elected to take no action. That suspension could have been 30 days for me.
