Default heads for HP?

When my 351W went in my car I kept the Windsor Jr. heads. Yesterday I had it on the dyno for the first time, torque 323, RWHP 277 at 5000 rpm. What heads should I be considering to get my HP up and what would the expected pay off be at the track. Last time out I ran 13.4, 108 mph with a 2.4 60' on street tires. Suggestions?

What is the rest of your mods, from the carb to the tail pipes?

Cool

First give us the whole package
motor
tranny/stall
rear/ tire
suspention

You are capable of mid 12s with out ever opening the hood, your problem is the 60ft. Those Jrs are not the problem, yes there is better out there, but you don't need that right now.

Something is up. Mine made more power with less parts. Not to mention 50 less cubic in. and a stock cam.

slicks , 750 dbl pumper, or a little n20 would be cheaper than new heads

what suspention mods do you have ?

cams almost the same as my turbo set up 280 dur .512 lift

so its kinda small for a na 351

The Windsor Jr. heads are a little under sized for a 357. I also think you could use more cam lift and get at least your exhaust duration at 50 up into the 234's. Your at 228 right now. I'm not a huge fan of single pattern cams. You might also look into a long tube header with 1-3/4" primaries. The best head IMO for the lift your running would be the TFS Twisted Wedge, but you would have to get them drilled for the 1/2" head bolts. Second I would choose the AFR 185cc heads. Don't forget to check valve clearance! If you could post your dyno that would help more also.

Thanks
Murdock

Cool

A 2.4 60ft, yes lets all add more motor, thats it now a 2.9 60ft should fit the bill. YOUR MOTOR IS NOT THE PROBLEM, GET OFF OF IT AND GET OUT THE HOLE.

Granite he's not getting any traction, but I was looking at his dyno numbers. A 357 should be pulling more than 277 HP and you really don't need to hook up on the dyno roller.

1984 GT, does the car bog at all off the line?

I don't bog off the line. I haven't run on anything but my street tires so far and can't really launch. I just have to ease out of the hole and be pretty conservative shfting into second. I have an extra set of rims and plan on mounting and using ET streets which should help with my traction problems.

I'll try and post my dyno sheets for help later they show a nice clean steady curve up to around 5000 rpm where it tails off.

I will agree, the motor sounds a little shy. What is the chance that the tires were slipping on the dyno? OK stupid question. But really, what is more important the dyno sheet or the time slip? No matter what the dyno sheet tells you, the timeslip says (You need traction) 277hp is what I think I have, But no one at the track knows that, they all think more like 400, ha I wish. Good luck with what ever you decide, The best part is that you are concerned with it.

Thanks to everyone for the input. I guess the bottom line is ET and not HP so I'll look for a new transmission, I'm running the stock T5 which I don't think will last under the pressure of hooking and launching, and probably run ET Streets.
