Default Differences between 83 and 93 rack and pinon???

I am noticing that my 83 mustang's rack and pinion has a different part # than a 93?

Can anyone help me with the differences before I buy one?

For power steering:
according to my 5.0L specifications book '79-'83.5 models had a variable ratio rack whereas later models had a constant ratio.
Also earlier models (pre- '83.5) offered a "high-effort"' 20:1 ratio rack, whereas later models had the 15:1 ratio rack.
All through production there was also two models for the same P/S racks, one made by Ford the other by TRW....i don't and can't find any stated differences between the different manufacturer's designs so i believe it's of the same design.

As stated before the ratios are different other then that they are the same and are interchangable. The high performance rack for 79-84's that svo sells/sold don't know if they still market it or not is really just the later model rack.

Thats good info!

Now which rack is better the TRW or Ford ?

And which ratio do I want 2.5 or 2.25?

BTW, The mounting bushings are different. Anyone know which bushings I need for my 83? Urethane ones only plz
