![]() You should already have a posi rearend. It probably just needs to be rebuilt. The kit is only about 60 bucks to rebuild it. Put new gears in while you are at it.

I NEVER USED IT BECAUSE I SOLD THE CAR IT WAS GOING ON, IT TOO WAS DOING THE ONE WHEEL PEEL OUT. I DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH THE REBUILD KITS ARE BUT YOU CAN HAVE THIS ONE FOR $60 AND I WILL MEET YOU HALF WAY SO THERE IS NO SHIPPING INVLOVED. LET ME KNOW. KINGSJ@1FSSG.USMC.MIL

![]() I rebuilt mine in the car in about 3 hours. Use the alternating clutch pack method. It's almost like a locker now. There's a good tech article on www.corral.net, it's actually about putting in gears, but there's a section on rebuilding the posi.

![]() If you do the rebuild, just go with the normal Ford method. It works fine and will be trouble free. The corral.net article is good. One thing they had wrong is that you soak the frictions in friction modifier, not gear oil like the article said.
I had no popping at all after I rebuilt mine and I know mine works. One way to check is to raise the rear with the car in gear. Try to tighten a lug nut. If the wheel turns, your traction lok has had it. ------------------ 351W 89 Mustang GT Convertible |

![]() Take the marine up on his offer, BTW, and rebuild it while it's off the car. You'll have a cheap spare that way and won't have to cripple your car while you work on it.

![]() If you take the Marine up on his offer, be aware that you will need to transfer your ring gear to the new posi unit, which you might as well rebuild anyway, and set the backlash properly. No big deal if you're getting new gears at the same time, but if you just want to rebuild the posi it will take longer and it's more expensive.
BTW, I used the alternating clutch method, no popping and no problems for the last 6 months. And it is IMPOSSIBLE to spin one tire no matter what. |
