Exclamation excessive heat coming from console area

Today I installed a new PRO 5.0 shifter. Installation was great and I love it. But I was driving tonight and I noticed it's getting very very hot in the ash tray area. Almost like the heat is on.

The instructions said to remove the dust cover from the stock t-5 shifter. So basically there is no boot. I don't mind the dust cover missing but it's also noisy. But my main concern is the heat.

Could the transmission get that hot? or maybe it's from my off road h-pipe. But why did it not get that hot before?

Any suggestions or comments would be great. Thanks in advance

Try driving with your center console off for awhile. Then put your hand on the area just below the e-brake. Caution, you may want to remove hand quickly cause yes it's hot you bast*** guy. (inside joke)

Dude, you have a v-8 now, not a 4-cyl, so its gonna be 2x as hot. Don't worry about it, but I would put that dust cover back on (you shouldnt have cut it off) and it might be allot cooler.

P.S. That B&M is sitting at my house here so I may have a suprise when I come back you bridbrain.

Exactly what he said. Removing that dust cover lets the heat in...that is what it is for, on top of keeping dirt and grease out. I doubt that you will be able to put it back in, because the shifter is bigger than the stock unit. Mine is like a year round heater....kinda sucks in the summer though.

I am pretty sure that the directions say that you should trim the stock boot opening a little bigger so that it fits snuggly over the shifter. At least that’s what I did to mine. Fits nice.

The directions said to trim it right before the pyramid starts (the bottom of the boot area). So that's what I did. But I can also see right to the ground when the shifter bezzel is off. I tried triming it closer to the shifter but it wouldn't fit right. I am going to try to go to a junk yard and pick another plate up with the dust cover stapled on just like it is suppost to be and get creative.

But the thing is, the heat doesn't seem like it's comming from there. It feels like it's comming from the rear tray area and parking break slit. All that heat from not having the dust cover on? Hard to beleive. The heat isn't coming from the shifter bezel, it's just noisy w/ out the cover.

I also want to be able to adjust the stop bolts if I have to w/ out having the dust cover in the way. Any recommendations when I get the new cover and plate?

Thanks again.

like I said, the V-8 produces allot more heat from down there. If anything, the cats would produce more heat than the offraod h-pipe cause they retain it. I will let you feel the heat from my console as soon as I come back from Tampa. Oh, BTW, you slack a** city slicker (inside joke) check the latest addition to the sig
