I have a dilemma on which head I should get. My combo will be box stock Edelbrock Performer intake, either AFR 165 or 185 heads (both are street legal and I can get them for the same price) 1 5/8 long tubes, 3.73, and bolt ons (70mm TBm 73mm MAF, etc. ) I haven't decided on a cam yet, because I haven't decided on the heads. Any suggestions as to which set I should get? This is a daily driven car with weekly trips to the dragstrip. Thanks for any input.

I'd definately go with the AFR's. In a post mag article, the 185 and 165 made about the same power on the dyno. Obviously get the bigger ones if you plan on forced induction ever. You can get them in either 58 or 64 cc chambers. get the 58's on motor.

No reason for the 185's with your intake.

I'd go with TFS TW heads for $400 less than the AFR's since they are comparable. |

I agree, with that intake and exhaust AFR 165's would be the way to go. If you plan on stroking it or going forced induction then get the 185's. I have been looking at heads lately and have decided to get the 185's for the 306 I am building. Next year(hopefully) it will have a twin turbo on it. The TFS heads are good too but I like the AFR heads better.

If you can get em both at the same price and its a good price go with the 185's and get a VIC JR intake. Go with a high rpm came and make that thing rev past 6200. You'll make over 400FWHP and it will be a beast.

if you insist on the stock edelbrock perfomer get a mild cam and TFS heads. Skyler ------------------ -1989 Saleen Mustang #406- TFS Heads, E-303, edelbrock intake,70MM TB, 73mm MAF, off road H, headers and 3chamber flows. 12.55@107mph 50-175 Nitrous Works WET Kit just added. |
