![]() If its for your T-5, it sounds like a clutch engagement problem. Check your throw out bearing and linkages, and if that all checks out (ie alignment, position, etc.) then check the disc and pressure plate. If the clutch and all that is fine, then it is probably an internal problem in the transmission.

![]() Jim- Here's a little more info..Last night I was chatting with Kris aka: Bowtie, he said that he has a stock shifter and assumes he has a stock cable and clutch, he did have the motor out so maybe something wasn't hooked up correctly, didn't really have a lot of time I was tired last night.
What doesn't makes sense is why it will go into 3rd gear ![]() ------------------ Check Out My Site 91GT,Holley SysteMAX II Kit-Heads 2.02" x 1.60" port matched to a 1262,Anderson N-61,24#,76mm C&L,Full MAC exhaust 1-5/8" Long tubes,2-1/2" O.R H-Pipe,2 1/2" cat back, No A/C or PS or emissions, 12" K&N Filter,RNH PERFORMANCE Ram Air,Ron Davis Radiator,Full Suspension,S&W 8pt "X" brace,JAZ seats,3:73's,Welds..etc,4:30's and 31 splines coming very soon! ![]() sounds like the clutch is not disengaging completly how far of the floor does it catch
when its in first does it want to move with the clutch fully depressed and no brake check under the dash theres a plastic rachet mechanism that self adjust the clutch check it out make shure its not broke or stuck pull the pawl that holds the rachet mechanism back away from it the press the petal it should self adjust correctly if it seems bad go aftermarket i have t-5 in fbird and stang never had that happen and it not be the clucth but it could happen |

![]() Try double-clutching and see if it shifts. Push the clutch to pull out of gear, let up when in neutral and then push the clutch in again to go into another gear. If this works for you, it is probably the synchros.

![]() foxandfoe, it sounds just like what u described, ill try what you said.
in first, with no brake, it inches forward, as if i was slipping the clutch. could the adjuster thing be the problem? ill try that tomorrow, & post what it did. thanks ------------------ 1988 Mustang GT, T-5 3.08's, No Smog Pump (Shorty Belt), Dumps At The End Of Stock H-Pipe, K&N Air Filter (Stock Air Box), Removed Air SilencerMy Stang My Site (Not Done Yet) |

![]() REMEMBERED ADJUSTER IS CALLED the QAUDRANT
(ratchet mechanism) and pawl they somtimes get stuck or froze, or the cable is now to stretch to far for it to adjust. or at worst something in the clutch broke like a spring is and is wedged between disc and flywhelel or pressure plate start withmechanism first try lube and make shure its free. |
