Default Looking for first mustang.

Long time Camaro driver here. I am looking to get my first mustang. I have around $10,000 dollars to spend. I am thinking a 2000ish GT would be in my price range. I have alot of questions though...

First and foremost: Is there a paticular year I should get? Are some years better for modding than others? Car will be a daily driver for at least a year, but then I would like to built it to around the 400~450HP range.

It must be an auto. How are the Ford automatics? The GM 4L60's are famous for failing under stress. How are the AOD-E's?

IRS? When did they start coming with these? How do they hold up to drag racing, or heavy use?

How is access in the engine bay as opposed to the Fox body stangs?

I am sure I will come up with more questions. Please respond with anything you think is relevant. It would be much apreciated!
