New rebuild under way, 306, Forged pistons, Eagle rods, stock crank, Typhoon intake ('cause I got one), 65mm T.B., 70mm "cobra" air meter ('cause I got 'em), AFR 165 heads, Trick flow #1 cam (221*/225*@.050 .530/.542 lift W/ my 1.7 RR's).

Question is I'm thinking of buying the pedastal mount version of the AFR's so I can keep my ped. mount 1.7 RR's. Is this a good idea, does it make a big diffrence VS stud mount? I plan to spray it with a 100-125 shot. What do you think of cam choice, will it be too much for a 70-80% street car? 5-speed 3.73's. I plan to spray it with a 100-125 shot. So I'll be buying a Tremec when T-5 goes. Any suggestions greatly apprieciated

Any opinions at all before I spend $1300 on the pedestal mount AFR 165's.

Will this cam and rocker choice be streetable, I'm afraid of the lift vs. dur since the cam is designed for a 1.6 R arm. I could'nt tell much of a diffrence when I got the 1.7's with stock cam & heads but I am thinking that may be a diffrent story now. I need help as I don't want to put together a mis-matched combo, although I've done some homework so I think I got a good street motor figured??

Ski, IMHO there is NO place on a performance engine for pedistal rockers. Spend the cash now, but the studs, guide plates, stud mount rockers, and go for broke now. Throw the ped's on ebay, some "kid" will snag the 1.7's up.

I'd go with the CNC machined Trick Flow heads over the AFR's any day. Seen too many problems with the AFR's and they can't hold a candle to the new CNC machined trick flows.

I agree with Jester. Do it once and do it right. He also told me once, as I was thinking of buying cheap Chinese cylinder heads, "Speed costs money, how fast do you want to go?"

Go with the stud mount rockers. Some nice extruded or billet aluminum. I have the Ford motorsport rockers. They rock!! Get it? Seriously, the engine spins to 6500 rpm with a 560 lift solid lifter cam and I've had no problems.

Well, now I think I'm gonna just go with Edelbrock Performer and forget about "valve float".

I sure can't stretch budget to make the Trick Flow CNC'd heads a realality, what are they like $2000.

Well, after a lot of phone calls and lost sleep, I bought AFR 165's stud mount & 1.6 RR's. Now I gotta decide on the Trick Flow #1 cam or a custom grind? Any suggestions?

Why do comp cams cost so much? Like $370??

I vote custom grind. Cam Motion "dahn nare" in Lousianna (www.cammotion.com) will fix you right up. Be prepared though, they'll want to know EVERYTHING about the car. Cubes, intake, heads, headers, trans, gear ratios, tire size, etc etc. Glad to see you went with a good set of heads. You WON'T be sorry about that decision!!! ![]() Quote:

I leave the line at 6000, shift at 7500, and she's still pulling hard. John (owner of Canfield heads) said to shift at 7700 and see what happens, but I'm a bit chicken to wind her up that hard.
