Default new guy

Just introducing myself. Go by PonyBoy, in the service, live in GA. I own a 02 Expedition and a 93 lx foxbody m5. Virgin, bone stock 72k on the clock, bought it new. It's time to mod, any suggestions?

Congratulations on the Lx, thank you for defending our freedom as Americans in the service, and that being said, just search this forum for "Beginners Mods" there must be at least 100 articles, and posts about what mods for the fox body, trucks, everything, there isn't anything you can do to it that hasn't been done by anyone on this site I'm sure, the guys on this site are incredible.

IMO, the best mod with the best results to start with is a good set of gears, 3.73 are nice if your a street warrior, 4.10's are awesome in the 1320, I have 4.10's on the street and love it, I had a stock 5.0 with crappy typical bolt on's, a few suspension mods and it felt like crap with the stock 3.08 Z code rear, then once I got the 4.10's it was like a whole new car, well worth the investment. And if you don't drag launch every time, the stock 8.8 rear is a tough son of a gun!
I'm a newbie, so please correct me if I'm wrong on anything guys.

gears (3.73 - 4.10)
underdrive pullies
2.5" cat back exhaust
2.5" h or x pipes (cats are your choice)
shocks/struts (i like my bilsteins)
subframe connectors (very important)
remove air silencer and leave it in your garage

if more serious i would go with:
heads
cam
intake

match those 3 and you'll have a quick, respectable ride

With those suspension mods, it should handle and launch alot better. And all those engine mods "should" put me at what? 300hp and about 360 fl lbs to the ground? That would be nice. I already have a exhaust ordered, it is: BBK Long Tube Headers/BBK matching H-Pipe (off road) with the SLP Loud Mouth cat back, it is now availiable for the fox bodies. Should sound nasty..

Nice choice on the exhaust. Yes it sound very serious on a 5.0 and down right beastly on a 5.0 with a lopey cam.

I have considered 373 gears but I have not decided on whether or not to supercharge it or run nitrous. With a supercharger I have been told to go with 355 gears, but if if stay n/a or run nitrous 373 or 410's would be better. Why is that? I have a buddy here on base with a 91 LX Notch running a procharger @12psi with 410 gears and that thing is down right terrifying. First gear is wasted in no-time and in second he can't even wot the car, it just spins and he has Nitto dr's on some Cobra 17x9 rims. Is that why 355 would be better? Because the supercharger and steep gear is too much? At top speed he can only pull out 140 mph or so and that is running right beside his girlfrineds 01 WS6 speed matching.

what are your plans for the car? daily driver, full race, weekend drags, etc?

if n/a, most guys are happy with 3.73 altough some prefer 4.10. IMO I would go 4.10 n/a.

if you plan on adding a supercharger or nitrous (soon), 3.55 or 3.27 depending on your setup.

tires are very important, nitto drag radials are a good all around choice. i think aftermarket control arms would be helpful as well. brakes are always nice too, they keep you and your car alive. is you want to go fast and not a daily driver, i would drop as much weight as possible.

Yea good point on the brakes, I plan on doing the 5-lug disc brake conversion soon. Just have not completely decided on wheels yet. And I am wanting to make the car fast, but also keep it streetable. I am after a mean little fox body that will dip into the 11's on some slicks that I can drive anywhere, anytime. My 02 Epedition will be paid off in a couple of months and other than that, my only bills are cell phone, car insurance, gas shit like that. Not married, 1 kid, lives with me and I am a E-5 in the Navy. I will have more money than time. Wanting to give the mustang something back, it has been there for me for me for 12 years and has. NEVER broke down. So gears, suspension mods/brakes-5-lug wheels/full exhaust is a good start? Oh, for shits and giggles, the car is bright red (waxed monthly for 12 years) all black interior (upgraded to SN95 black leather seats), stock pony wheels (235/50/16's front and rear), stock exhuast, no bling on the outside, plain-jayne lx fox 5.0.

I have decided to just do a head/cam, intake and all other bolt ons, cai/pullies/better radiator, stuff like that for now. And add a nitrous 125 or mabey 150 shot for track pruposes. Any suggestions on what head/cam and u/l intakes? I have looked at the Nitrous Express 125-150 wet kit, looks safe and you think the 5.0 could handle a 150 shot? I have also decided on a 373 gear with a eaton when I do the 5-lug swap with 31 spline axles, been told those are the ones to get. I will do the whole rear end at one time when I do the 5-lug conversion, already have a quote from a local spped shop who does that on a daily basis. Off the bottle I am hoping for atleast 300hp and 375 or so tq, on the bottle, what ever I can get without blowing my hood off. Any suggestions?
