![]() Hey.. im kinda new, but i fell in love with a 68 Mustang..
Now i need some of you (experts) advice as to what to watch for, and if i should touch it at all... Heres a link to Pics of the car : http://www.bmbilsalg.dk/page15.html 1. Question : is this engine worth anything, or ??? Its fitted with a Mustang 1989 GT(V8) Engine.. 2. What should i look for as problems : Corrosion, brakes etc etc ?? 3. The price is kinda hard to say as its in DK currency, which cant be translated directly to $$ .. But a guess would be about : 10.000 $$ Is the price insane or ??? Thats it for the moment... ill prolly return with more once i get to see it up close and been for a test drive... |

![]() Well, the exterior looks great. The obvious caution and one that I am sure will be echoed by others is "check for rust"! Floor pans, under the doors, everywhere! That would be the biggest expense and headache for you. It is hard to tell from the photos but it looks like the interior could use some work but that is a relatively low cost project. The engine would not be my first choice but I suppose one could live with it. My sense is that as long as the car is relatively rust free it would be a reasonable price. Good luck. E.

![]() I'm not sure what DK Money is but it sounds like you may be thinking of buying this car long distance. If this is the case "BUYER BEWARE". At the following link there is a good article that you should read if you are buying long distance. http://links.carjunky.com/cgi-bin/cars/jump.cgi?ID=1660.
The price sounds pretty good. But beware of structural rust. I have seen some cars that look fantastic on the outside, but I would be scared to drive them because the frames were so rusted. I'm not to familiar with the late 60's mustangs but I know that the earlier mustangs had a tendency to rust in the floor pans, at the rear leaf spring purchase points, on the point were the frame enters the body just behind the front fenders. If you can get under the car with a flashlight and give it a real good look. As far as the floor pans go, I have actually seen people go as far a tapeing rust holes up and then spraying an undercoating to hide the evidence. As far as the engine goes, who really cares. You know that its not original. If your happy with not having an original engine then that is what really matters. You are buing the car to drive and if it runs then great. Good luck |

![]() Sorry.. i forgot to add :
I am able to inspect the car myself, as the car is only about 1 hour drive away from home.. Ive only had a chance to look at the car through a window (Car dealer was closed). So no close up inspection yet. So far it seems that : RUST ! is my biggest worry. What about engine ? Or the electrical system ? Or Brakes ? Im specially worried about the Engine, since its a 89 GT... Ive heard ( dont know if its true ) that the 89 GT engine has a lowered HP output but at a bigger fuel intake ?? Got a horror story about a friend that once bought a old Chevy, and he was short on money, so everything he had went to to car.. He didnt have money for insurance or anything else. The worst part is that he borrowed most of the cash from a bank.. The horror comes here : One night he heard sirense from fire trucks.. he didnt give it much attention, but maybe he should, as it was his car they were putting out. It was burned to a crisp, nothing could be use from it. That was about 2 weeks after he bought the car. The fire dep. found out that it was a mailfunction in the electrical system that started te fire. So i think that would be one the things ill look really close at. |

![]() Most cars look good in pictures and from 50 feet. As said above RUST will be your biggest concern. The typical rust places on Mustangs go through to the 67-68-etc.
Frame rails, torque boxes, fender aprons, cowl, trunk floor, passenger compartment floors, inner and outer rear fender wells, rear quarters, bottom of the doors, bottom of the front fenders. Did I leave any sheet metal out?? Also....as said above, be careful if you see undercoated sprayed all over. It may be covering up lots of sins. Lastly...the engine is the least of your worries. If you're not comfortable checking the body/frame over, hire a professional to look at it. You'll save money in the long run. 10K US isn't bad....IF and that's a BIG IF....it isn't a "rust bucket".
