289 horsepower build up
What is the easiest way to get 300hp from a 1968 stock 289 with 4bbl edelbrock without pulling the motor and boring it.

Re: 289 horsepower build up
Blower/Supercharger or Nitrous
Change heads/bigger cam If you want to get more hp You're probably are going to have to pull the engine and build it right I doing the same w/ my 5.0FI. I hope to have at least 600hp+ when I get done. Ross |

Re: 289 horsepower build up
Hey, this sounds a little bit like my engine rebuilding topic.
I also think you shouldn't be shy about pulling the engine and building it properly. Especially if it's not your only car. Although I can see why you'd want to be able to drive it while the weather is still great.

Re: 289 horsepower build up
Heads, cam, intake and 4-barrel. Remember the Shelby's had 306 HP.
You can do it while the engine is still in the car if the engine is in decent shape. But, it would be much better with the engine pulled and gone through.

Re: 289 horsepower build up
Just put a 100 shot of nitrous on it. That will get you the 300 at the flywheel that you are after. If the engine is worn much you will only be happy for awhile. You'll eventually need to build an engine that will hold up to that power and moderate abuse. Forged pistons, better rod bolts, etc., come to mind.
