Default Window Tints

How many people here have your windows tinted? I think it adds a killer look to some cars. I'm getting my back and quarters done, but it is illegal to touch the side windows. I want to put a light tint on them to complete the look but don't feel like getting 5 tickets a month. Anybody out there have similar experiences that you can share? ~Brian

Thumbs up

I have the back and quarters tinted almost black. That's one of the first things I got done to my car. I MUST have my windows tinted. Cant tint the sides though in Cali. I think you could get away with a very light smoke. I think that and rims add a world of difference to a stock stang. The tint is probly like 9 years old and is holding up fairly well... they corner is peeling a bit and bubbling but over all in good condition after so long.

(thats an old pic.. probly when I first got them tinted..)

I have tind all around (Except for windshield). In Massachusetts you can tint, but only to 35%. They are trying to outlaw it, but it hasn't been to sucsessful yet. I have seen some Mass. State cops with Limo tint all around.

Do it! I've heard Ziebart in Downers off of Ogden. It's across the street from Madden Ford. They'll go as dark as you want without any hassle.

I'd have to agree... if it were my car I'd do it... I have my windows tinted pretty dark on my mustang... but since I have a white mustang the tinted windows and headlight covers on it really contrast with the white which I really like... it stands out... at least to me it does... around where I live they do have a law that you can only go a certain percentage, but I've yet to get hit for it (knock on wood)...

I've seen cops ask people to roll the windows up at night, then give tickets for illegal tint.

Consider it before you tint.

The tint here in Ohio is legal to 55%(45%) and I believe it's 65%(35%)in Kentucky. When I had my 01 stang they were tinted to 80%(including sides). When I got my 02 I went to 90%. I've never had a problem with either one. The only cops that really care are the highway patrol but as far as the township cops and sheriff's go they don't seem to care. I think it has a lot to do if your driving a ghetto car or a ricer then they might harrass you.

TruBluePony I think you've got it backwards. 90% tint would like 90% of the light in. ie very light. 35% tint is lighter than 15% tint, etc

In MS 35% is the legal limit. But no body cares so the LX has 15% on everything except the windshield.

That is exactly why if I do the side windows, I want a LIGHT tint. If I smoke it really dark, I know I'll get pulled over once a week as it is. My car is enough of a cop magnet with an offroad h-pipe and flowmaster and dumps. So I'm still undecided. I'm definately doing the back and the quarters though.

Jill: I've heard good things about them, and that's for sure where I'm going. They did this guy's car at work and it looks great. You got your windows tinted on the vert? It would look mean on a triple black vert ~Brian

In Mass they make you roll your windows up durning state inspection. My buddies though he was gonna pull a fast one on his GT ragtop. Everytime he got it inspected he would show up with the top down and windows down. He wasn't happy when they told him to roll them up. He went to a bone yard and bought two side windows. And puts them on only during inspection time, then goes back to the tinted ones. Gotta do what you gotta do I guess !

Tireburner163 that's why I put the other percentages in also. All I know is here when you order tint you give the percentage that light is blocked not the amount let in. It's an Ohio thing I suppose.

Hey Sicy - the law has changed in California. It is legal to have the fronts tinted up to a point, 35% I think. They give you a certificate stating that your side windows are tinted in accordance with the limits of the law, so if you wanted to get tricky you can always get them done darker later and show the certificate if you get pulled over.

I tint my vehicles 35%. The Ranger, the Mustang, and the Windstar.
Its illegal in Michigan, but I got a letter from my opthomologist stating that I am photophobic (fear of light). So I cannot get written up for tinting the driver/passenger windows.
