Unhappy Speedometer Cable...

My speedo cable keeps coming loose and rattles like hell. Is there some sort of retaining clip that I am missing? Where can I buy one? This is driving me nuts. My car is silent (except for the exhaust) other than this continuing problem. Please help.

where is it comming loose from? i had my spedo cable come loose from under the car. One day my spedo stopped working, so a few weeks later, we were under the car and noticed it all burnt up, it had come loose some how and got stuck to the h pipe, i dont know how there connected, but i used a little plastic tie wrap to tie it to the body, so it would stay tight and not move, its been a few month, but somewhere under the driver seat, undernethe the car, i found a place, just check it out if thats where its comming from

Default Speedo cable

It is coming loose at the instrument panel. It has a white connector on the end of the cable that looks like it should have a clip holding it on the instrument cluster.

is the spedometer working? when my cable burnt, i had to take the dash apart and run the cable through the firewall to the transmission, i wonder if it makes a difference, my car has a mechanical spedo, there arent any computers in my car since its caurberated, but from what i remember, the cable plugged in to the guage and there wasnt any slack really to play with, i dont remember any clip or anything, but i got the cable from a local ford dealership, im sure they would know exactly what you are talking about and have the pieces if you need them, i dont relaly know if i can help you from here, sorry, good luck though.

Default Speedo cable...

It is working, but it rattles when it moves out from the instrument cluster over time. I will ask Ford if they have a fix for it. Thanks for all of your help.

There should be a "clip" on the back of the speedo where the cable goes in. Odds are, yours has broken off. You may need a new speedo, unless a replacement clip can be mounted to the speedo. Call Ford.

Take care,
