![]() I'm in the process of bringing an '87 GT up to
good road-worthiness...brakes, exhaust, wires, paint ect...have had it a month.(its pretty clean as it is) At 140,000 miles, I know a rebuild is in sight, though it runs strong and quiet...smooth idle, and an instant starter. It appears I need to get an adjustable quadrant and clutch cable (short throw on a year old clutch) The front end needs to be tightened up...noisy.. A slight clank in the rear-end says it's got 140,000 miles on it. So...we all have a budget, mines slow and tight. I know when I rebuild, I should probably convert to mass-air, ...(seen a rebuild with a cam and increased headers, that wouldn't run right with speed density). Most Bang for the buck here...It'll go to the strip a couple of times to prove out against my friends' 350 Nova...boasting rights..... Then it'll be a week-ender cruiser....but again, I wouldn't want to be shut-down by very much, stock out of Detroit... So? Stick with the 302 and a .030 bore, heads, mass-air, mild cam and some low cost trick stuff...or go for a freashened stock 351w, and some low cost trick stuff ? What about the 5-speed in it now....(shifts clean) What to worry about if you bolt in a 351w..or is that possible with-out getting the torches out, and spending the winter fretting over a bunch of things to get it right? Little stuff here..... what color is the 87 302 block?? (paint) where do you get a stock-height hood liner? Used Mustange parts? I've hit every yard with-in 75 miles of here, and the only GT there was left...was striped clean... Motown apparently loves Mustangs....<g> thanks.... |

![]() welcome to a kickazz site!, now 140k isnt bad, long as its not burning 3 quarts a week, but stiffen up the chassis with some subframe connectors, if you want a little more outta the 5.0, advance the timing, get rid of the air silencer (if it has one) get some rear gears, and rebuild the trak loc while theyre in there, 140k is good for an 87, but a rebuilt 306 would be a smart move, you will get more opinions im sure......take it easy.
