Default What should I do with my life?

You guys have helped me with all of my car questions so I thought maybe you could help me with a more important one. I'm 20 years old and I am having a hard time deciding what to do with my life. I am currently not in school and I work full time managing a network for a small local company. I also created and manage their website. So I have a lot of computer experience. I have taken a few computer courses (networking related). I am also very good with my hands and absolutely love working on cars. What are some careers that would utilize my computer skills and my love are cars. Making good money is also important

Thanks!

Work towards starting a business involving cars. Maybe a regular mechanic shop or a speed shop. You what I would like to learn. I would like to learn how to burn custom computer chips. Just some ideas.

It sounds like you're on the right track for what you want to do. Maybe you could build websites or something. Or do like what 7000 said, start up a business. Give it a little time, you're young.

Take it easy,

since your good with computers and like cars you could start up like a mail order online business and sell car parts. Thats combining both of your skills plus youd be making a lot of money too. A guy that comes to my work owns a speed shop and he's loaded also one ofthe coolest guys i know. But do what ever makes you happy dont do something just because thats whats gonna make you tons of money do stuff you like and get lots of money.

I wouldn't start up a mail order company. There are already way too many places that sell parts, and I think you'd be hard pressed to fit into the marketplace without offering prices that are way low, and I don't think you could build the volume.

To start off, I'd start looking into other possible jobs that you can use your skills, and you're not always going to be able to use all your strengths/do what you love. Times are kinda tough now...I'd just look for a computer job that pays nicely, then when the job market opens up or you earn more experience, then think more about your own business of some sort

I totally agree, Summit and Jegs will destroy you quicker than you can say......ummm Destroy? Local speed shops just can't compete with their prices. I'm kinda in the same boat as you are, trying to figure out what I want to do. I signed up for auto paint class, and I have been taking that for 3 weeks now. I would like to open up my own performance/paint/custom car shop in the future. Here's some great advice...save money, and put it in a savings account...I can't tell you how nice it is having money in the bank, it gives you all sorts of opportunies. If you open a shop, and do good work, and treat your customers right, the word will get around. It boils down to this, do what you really like to do, and if you really truly enjoy it, the money will come. People might call bs on that, but it's soooooo true.
