Default Hoods

I'm going to put a 4bbl intake and carb under my stock hood on my '66. Will it fit. What do I do if I buy, and it doesn't?

it depends on what you buy to a certain extent. I put a 4bbl intake and carb on my stock 67 and the hood clearance was not a problem. i'm not sure how much difference there is in hood clearance between a 66 and a 67, but i don't think it will be a problem. you can measure it if you want. take the height of the intake and carb and air cleaner, then compare it to the distance from the top of the center of the block to the hood. if you're buying a new air cleaner as well there are some cleaners that are very low profile which will give you that extra inch or two if you need it.

i have a 66 and i put a edelbrock performer 289 and the edelbrock 600 cfm carb on with a 2 inch high air cleaner and it fits just fine.. i dont think you will have any problems fitting it under the hood unless you get the edelbrock air gap intake. but you could probably get a smaller air cleaner and make it fit. good luck.

2" filter element for a 302 CI is pretty thin to me. I think you need 3-4" for a performance engine so as not to restrict air into the engine. Use modeling clay to check hood clearances if it's tight under the hood.

I use a 3" K&N in a home made cold air induction unit with an Edelbrock Performer, with my stock hood . The home made thing touches the hood sometimes and "moves" on it as I nail the throttle.

Well, I guess if it doesn't fit, I can always put on a ram air scoop, right?

always true...some people might even hope that it doesn't clear so that they HAVE to put the ram air scoop on. that would just be horrible.
