Arrow Mixed feelings on SHM customer service

it was bad enough that the freight company that handled the FIRST shortblock dropped the thing , then they put me off for another 4 days because they couldn't be bothered to contact sean to get approval to send me a new motor...It took about a month from the time of my order until i had a shortblock in front of me...they got the new block here, but still no head studs as advertised on their website. I can't believe they didn't send my head studs 2nd day air...the extra cost would not have been prohibitive, and to make me wait 2 more weeks, when they should have been included with my order is ludicrous.

it has been two months since i placed my order and i STILL don't have all the parts!

so, i'm here without a car because they couldn't see fit to spend an extra $10 to make their customer happy...

AND NOW...
the guy that's building my engine says he's only seen 3 SHM motors and they all suck down oil like nobody's business!

i guess when you get too big, you have to pay high school kids to build motors for you, huh? I guess that means that i have a high school kid shortblock, cuz i doubt that sean hyland built it...I trust sean, but i have no faith in high school kids building $4k motors...i would imagine that high school kids don't care about your reputation as an engine builder. THEIR name isn't on the tag.

maybe they USED to be the best in the business, but now they ought to be working on damage control...Sean's reputation is at stake...

Lame. If you want to keep your reputation, you hire good workers, not high school learners. Sounds like he's already tarnished his reputation a great deal.

You have to keep an eye on your business if you want it to stay healthy and respectable. Guess he's too high on his old reputation to care what kind of junk his company is putting out now.

Damn...that sucks. I was actually considering going with an SHM shortblock for my GT. I need to increase my motor's strength to gain oodles more power like i desire, but figured, for just a little more money, could start fresh. That's kind of disheartening, perhaps I'll just have to take my business elsewhere then.

Default i didn't say they DO use hs kids...

i was venting a bit much, maybe.
i did say "...I guess...they use hs kids" i don't KNOW if they do or not...

re: oil burners

the engine guy (bob johnson) in sac is tearing down the other shm block before he works on mine to see what the deal is. it could be that the person who drove the thing broke it himself...if there are excessive ring end-gap tolerances, then i may elect to have my shortblock dismantled to save the pain of removing it after it's installed and checked to be certain i'm starting out with something correct...

Thumbs down OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well, i think they've definitely lost a customer with me.
they haven't even SHIPPED the headstuds even though Jim promised to send them 10 days ago!

I told Jim that i want them to overnight the studs to me so I can get my car out of the shop.

I can't believe they would promise to do something they had no intention of doing, and leaving me, the customer, hanging...

maybe when they cash your check, they are done with the niceities like telling the truth...

There are plenty of engine builders right here in the states without ordering something from another country...imagine the legal hassles if they don't perform their side of the contract.

oh well...
live and learn.

Default they must be brain dead...

i get a phone call from SHM at 5:19 this morning...
do they have clocks in Canada?
i get another call from SHM at 8:29 AM asking for my address...
actually she was asking me to call the trucking company and give them my address.

these guys sent a motor to my address, why do they wake me up in the early morning to harrass me for information they already have?

Then, Mr. Trucker pulls up to the casa at 8:45 AM!
now, i talked to him on the phone and told him the motor would be ready at 9 AM less than 24 hours ago...

i told him as much.
the motor will be ready to pick up at 9 AM!

he says, "you're kidding, right?"

i told him i didn't care what he did, "the motor will be ready to pick up at 9 AM!"

he left.
