![]() Ok, I'm mad. I was in town the other night and saw this guy in a 99 GT with some bolt-ons. This thing is an auto car with a mean *** shift kit, a chip, gears, and stuff like that. Somehow he gets away with running this thing in a pure stock class that allows nothing more than maybe a chip and exhaust. But he did wreck it a little while ago into a pole or something and did like 10k worth of damage, he got it back and now it resembles a ricer He ended up beside me at a red light in town. I wan't too crazy about racing there anyway, but it turned green and we went. Everything was just fine at first. I didn't even think he was going to try to race, but when we got to about 20 he jumped the nose a couple of times, and about the time he nalied it i let her eat. I started to spin and he pulled on me about half a car, but when i went to second and finally manage to hook after feathering the gas a little i still couldn't catch the da$n thing I normally would leave this alone and say he has a ****** fast 99, but when i got up beside him i noticed his little girl in the car. She probably is about five years old, and i don't seem to think it's quite right going like 90 through a 35 zone where something tragic could happen with your little girl with you, she didn't even have her seat belt on. So here we go i know of this guy, and he is a real jacka$$ about racing. He's a real di*k if he wins. In my opinion if you win you win its all in fun especially in mustang against mustang, but geez don't go out of your way to cuss the other guy and flip him off and such if you win, unless he provokes you first. Can you guys think of any more things other than the obvious head, cam, supercharger, or nitrous that i can do to bust this guys *** (as long as he's alone anyway) i mean i don't want to pull him a little i want to destroy that thing, because someone needs to teach him a lesson. If your suggestions work i will try to get a full play by play of this dudes lesson along with pics on here for you guys. Please help you guys are awesome

![]() Hmmmm.... well, look at what you have now. I think your throttle body is too big for your stock intake, 4.10 gears are pretty steep to use without spinning on the street, I would put some type of exhaust pipe after the muffler, but that is just my opinion. Maybe he just outdrove you? If he punched it and hooked while you are feathering the clutch... you would have to have a significant horsepower advantage to make up the difference quickly.

![]() that is possible since i was not really expecting the race. he sorta got a jump and surprised me at the same time. and the throttle body was on the car when i bought it. I just didn't really want to change it. figured it may come in handy later. the 4.10's are nice if you can hook halfway decent, but as slick as the pavement in town is they kinda suck. i didn't put them in for red light racing. my tires are worn also

![]() Dude, update your sig already. "I've got the mods in my sig. And my times in the 1/8..." So I offer everything I can, and today I lookup your car in the user's rides and find out that you've already got most everything I mentioned or have it in your future plans. You're showing 269RWHP/297ft torque and a 99GT claims 260 and 280. The numbers are close enough that the 2 cars should be pretty competitive. Especially if you're not getting the hook. Another way to improve your quickness would be to dump the stereo out of the trunk. I finally had to ditch mine. I don't think anybody ever realizes how much all that stuff ways. All my junk weighed 82#. I had no idea. Haven't run it since I took it out. I only took it out for the cage install. Course I'll still be +40-50# once that's done.
Weld in subframe connectors and aftermarket control arms would be a good next mod for ya. When you jump on it and the left front corner raises and the as#end dances sideways, that takes power that could be going to the tires. I've got both. Put them on at different times and each made a significant difference in how the car takes off from the line and from the slow roll. Happy motoring |

![]() SORRY!!
With the 03 Cobra putting down it's 390 at the wheels, I just thought maybe the 99GT did it too. Then it must be a driving issue. |

![]() First, if you are angry that he raced you with his daughter in the car, why did you run him in the first place? Second do you drive mostly on the street or the strip? For street I'd run 3.73 gears. I don't know how much you're budget is, but I'd look into a good set of heads, an intake, and cam combo. I'd look at the Holley SystemMax II, or the Edelbrock RPM setup. I'd suggest using the whole system, ie the upper, lower intake, the heads, and the reccomended cam. If you want more compression ie more power, have the heads milled. The reason I say use one of these systems is good power production comes from the right combination of parts, not just picking the "best"parts. I hope that helps you out. Good luck.

![]() No Harm, No Foul.
One of the recent stang mags pulled right around 390 @ the wheels and I had heard that in recent years they had gone to estimating the HP @ the wheels. Apparently I was misled or just misunderstood. ![]() |

![]() gau83stang, i am angry for racing him with his daughter in the car, but i did not realize she was even in there until i got to another red light like 5 mins later. i know that he did not pick her up from anywhere because he never left my sight but didn't get back beside him for a while because of the traffic. if i had know she was in there there is no way in heck that i would have even responded to his wanting to race i would have just let him floor it and do whatever from there. i was mad because where he was was sorta like the town strip where everybody goes to find races and he had been cruising it for a while before i had even got there according to some ppl i had talked to. as he usually does when he goes up there. i go up there because that is where my friend tend to gather and usually just park and talk to them. this guy is way older than everyone else up there and besides that has made most everybody mad running his mouth anyway, so the only reason he goes up there is to find races which he does everytime he goes up there. i am perfectly fine with him going up there to race but am not fine about him racing with his daughter with him. the least he could have done was tell me to pull over and we would have went to some backroad let his daughter out and raced. that would have been much better than risking her life, or her getting hurt. Oh and i do drive mostly on the street so i guess 3.73's would be better, its just that i got the 4.10 from a friend for cheap. And i have large rims and tires and my gear ratio is calculated 3.94. don't know if that makes that much of a difference, but just thought i would share, they're probably still too low. thanks man just thought i would clarify that i had no intention of racing much lesss racing with his little girl in there.

![]() Personally i would say work on getting some traction. If the car wont hook now whats the point of putting more power to those spinning wheels. Get some nice meaty tires, some controll arms, and subframe connectors. Otherwise there is no point adding more hp. Otherwise you'll just be playing catch-up and thats a hard race to win.

![]() is there any specific tire recommendations that you guys care to offer. i've got 17's now, but am thinking about puttin a set of torque thrust 2's on it. 16's up front to clear rotors and 15's in the back if they make 'em. i was thinkin about a set of nitto 555R's for the 17's. are these any good. i don't know what the crap would be good tires for the 15's.

![]() I think that an upgrade in traction would also benefit you, probably more than the mods I suggested. I don't know much about tires either, but I've heard good things about the Nittos. Maybe you could get a set of M/T ET streets. Like I said I don't know much about tires, I'm more of an engine, tranny man. I can give you all kinds of info on that stuff. As a matter of fact I'm working on my new project. It's an 83 V-6 Stang (currently, anyways). I'm looking to do a 347(302 block) stroker or a 427(351W) stroker for it. Anyways, have fun. Oh yeah maybe a clutch upgrade is in order on your car? I don't remember if you said you had a shift kit either? But definetely try tires, then maybe some suspension work.
