![]() My problem is this I just recently had an emmisions test on my 88 Mustang. It failed for CO%, limit was 1.01 the car blew a 2.12, it also failed for HC ppm, limit on that was 180 it blew 256. I checked the EGR valve to see if maybe it wasn't working properly, it's fine no problem found. The cats on the car are original they have 174,000 miles on them.
This is the main problem I was messing around with the timing and set it at 16 degrees. I't pinged it *** off, so I tried 14,it still pinged it *** off. So I tried 10 whitch is a factory setting it still pinged. So right now it set at about 4-5 degrees, now it doesn't ping whitch is good. But because of the fact it is set so low it runs like a dog not a horse what the HELL is going on. Next step is new stock converters, new 02 sensors, and I'm going to do an induction service on it to blow out some of the carbon that is probably built up in it. My stang is just running really rich. Oh also I did put new cap rotor and plugs on it. Please any suggestions would really help. Thanks, Justin |

![]() Is your SPOUT connector in???
The car will run for crap if it isn't. Very easy to lose. You need to figure why it's pinging at 10*. You should be able to go to almost 16* bone stock on a cool day. What kind of gas do you use? Did you run it hard b4 the smog test? You need premium plus lots of octane booster...run your air and go on the e-way for a long time...get it hot..it'll pass. ------------------ 4.10's,long tubes & 75 shot...Goes 12.50's Check it out at http://www.burnouts.stangnet.com 11's coming soon!!!! Heads, intake and cam are all here |

![]() If you're going to replace the converters get a 2-1/2" H-pipe from MAC or BBK with hi-flow cats - about $400. You'll be sorry if you waste money on 4 restrictive stock cats and then have to replace them anyway. Mine was a gross polluter on the first test, replace the stock h-pipe and O2 sensors and it breezed through the second time.
------------------ 86 GT, GT40P heads, Crane 2031, 1.7 RR's, Cobra intake, 65mm TB, 73mm Vortech, 24# injectors, MAC GT40P headers, 2-1/2" BBK H-pipe (w/cats), Flowmasters, 3.55s, Groundpounder subs and lower control arms, 277 RWHP. THIS JUST IN!! All the good stuff is going in the new red 93 GT - no more rattles! |
