Default engine ID tag...where?

Where is it stamped on the block that tells what year my engine is? I'm going to be rebuilding my engine soon and I need to know what year it is. I was told at one time that my engine is a '69 351w but I want to find out for sure. I have the heads off now. Does anyone know what '69 351w pistons look like.
Also, will that tag tell me what vehicle it came out of.
BTW, I will also need to know how to decifer the tag when I find it.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

There is a casting number, and a date code, cast into the righthand side of the block, just above the starter. Between those two, identifying your engine should be a breeze. The casting number will look something like this:

C9OE-6015-B

And the date code will look something like this:

9F17 (with what looks like the head of a flathead screw at either end of the code)

Post them, and I'll explain them to you.

Take care,
~Chris
