Default 306 fit in 302

I'm just playing with some ideas and besides the ever popular 351 Windsor Swap, what else will swap with a 302 5.0 from a 1990 GT Mustang. Now when I say swap I don't mean having to replace everything on the car just to get it to fit properly. Also I think the 351W sounds nice, but it's just so dang heavy and I want to have my frontend nice and light so I might be able to get the wheels airbourne (say at about 35 MPH...:P) Anyways I was looking at the 306, heard it's about the same regarding power, possibly a bit more powerful. The thing I like about it is that it's a lot lighter. So anyways, basicilly my question is does the 306 drop into the 302 slot easily? And if so, does anybody know where I could find a 306 for sale?

a 306 is a 302 bored .030 thats all if you want some real power while n/a build a stroker motor 331 or 347 still utilizes a 302 block and makes alot more power. a 351 only weighs about 150# more than a 302 but you can make a heckuva lot more power with it reliably and if you use aluminum heads and get rid of some extra weight in the front end, accessories etc.. and move the battery to the rear your frontend will be lighter than if you had a stock 302 under hood. I dropped over 300# off my '93 cobra by removing the a/c, p/s, adding aluminum heads, sway bar removal etc.. now it weighs just over 3000# after the heads it weighed in at 3320# so you can see how much all the other crap weighs.

The 306, 331 & 347 all have the same bore, .030 over, it's the stroke that changes(ie: rod length), hence the name stroker motor. You can do a search on the Coral and get all the information you'll ever want or need to know about the differences and advantages/disadvantages of any of these and the 351 swaps. 351 is more expensive but has much more potential.
I agree with bigblockcoupe about the weight issue too, you can easily drop another 40-50 lbs with an aftermarket K member too. The advantages of the 351 outweigh the disadvantages if you have the $$$.

I have a quick question...when you "bore" an engine, what exactly are you doing to it?

boring is enlarging the bore round part your pistons go up and down in at the same time they straighten wear and then they should line home the bore for oiling so think of it as drilling out a hole with a bigger bit. in real simple terms .

and as far as lifting the front at 35 mph your car would have to be set up so bad that you would probable kill yourself in it. from a drag strip launch i can pull the whells but on the street ive never come close do to tires and road conditions thats with 700 hp. your suspention and weight transfer are more inportant than power for hooking up like that.

If you just want the front to raise 4 cyl springs and strutds will do that for you. also my stroked 351 has the same bore as th 306.

Thank you for explaining that for me.

In regards to your comment: well not really i don't it would kill me. :P My father always talks about how he used to get his 67 chevelle ss off the ground without even trying so it can't be that hard seeing how his car was a few pounds heavier and also yeah I realize I'd have to get a new supenstion to handle it slamming the ground plus other things. But i just want a monster of a mustang, I'm so sick of those stupid camaros and corvettes walking all over me. So I figured if i've got the power to pull my wheels off the ground at 35, it'll take a lil camaro or covette for a run. :P

If you wanna pull the wheels at 35 get a sport bike. A mustang aint gonna do it on the street man, and if it did, I would agree with bilster, it would kill you.
