Default Clutch Release lever Spring Question

Hello all...I am in the process of rebuilding my 4 speed topleader and it has been going well. I noticed when I removed the clutch and bellhousing to replace the pilot bushing - that the instructions show a "anti-rattle spring" on the release lever. I do not have this. Does anyone know if it is an absolute must to have and what it looks like? I did not have it before and the clutch seemed to work fine???? Is it a MUST to have this spring???

Thanks!
