Question 68 engine

I have a 68 coupe - 289 V8. The engine is in desperate need of cleaning. It hasn't run in about 4 years and I'm just starting to restore it. What would be the best way to get rid of the caked on dirt and grime that has built up on the engine? Thanks.

Default Steam

I used a product called Orange Blast (by greased lightning I think) and a hot pressure washer. Did a great job without much scrubbing. Had to cover the carb, distributor and some other sensitive areas - removed all the wires and went to town. I was getting the engine rebuilt, so I was not worried too much about being carefull. Carb Cleaner is another good product for removing grease, but it is much more toxic than Orange Blast.

Pressure washer. It makes short work of any grime.

I always do this before I work on any motor/trans etc.

Simple Greens good too, especally mixed with hot water. Also its non toxic and leaves your engine with that nice Rhubarb [sp?] smell. and seconds on a pressure washer
