On a stock mustang you will see very little or no gains. The only time a chip is worth the money is when you have a load of performance parts. Then you should get a custom one burned on a dyno for your combo to make it worth the money.
Off the shelf chips work good on cars with computer controled transmisions because they can change the shift points. ------------------ NA 347 W/ stage 2 Canfield heads, out of the box Victor 5.0 intake, solid roller cam, Aeromotive fuel system. I second that. A chip is not really gonna give you much if anything. As for the 4 cats, that sounds like a factory H-pipe, they came with 4. I would suggest a high flow or off road h-pipe, some underdrive pullies and find out your rear end gear ratio. If you jack up the car and mark the driveshaft with a piece of tape, then rotate the rear tire one revolution while counting the number of times the driveshaft turns during one tire revolution will tell you ballpark what gears are in there. One tire revolution, and the driveshaft turns 3 1/2 turns should be 3:55 gears. 3 3/4 is 3:73's, 4 is 4:11's. I think that is how it goes.....??

They aren't all cats. They are 2 resonators, 2 cats, 2 mufflers. I dont know a single person who has kept their resonators.

First of all, I will agree with everyone here -- you do not need a chip at this stage of the game.
I want add something additional, however. A custom burned chip for a higher hp application is great. However, I feel that the BEST way to go is with a new engine management system all together (like Speed-Pro). It's all about $$ though. A custom chip is going to run you several hundred dollars. Speed-Pro will run you several THOUSAND dollars. ------------------ Jeff Kane 1990 LX Mustang Coupe |

For the price of a chip that won't give you anything get some good headers or off road H pipe like mentioned

I bought a ADS chip years ago and it came with 160 therm. The reason is the chip advanced the timing so they cooled the engine to compensate, to keep it from 'pinging'. Add a 180 therm and advance your timing and save your money for something worth a crap(like the h-pipe) .

At this stage of the game, don't waste your $$$, a chip won't do anything for you.

Yup chips like ADS and hypertech are junk...dont even bother. Save up for some good cheap heads like the GT40P heads. Did I mention chips are junk?

the stock H-pipe has 4 CATS, not resonators, 4 CATS. if you want to change that, i would suggest a high-flow catted H-pipe, as it provides the back pressure needed to maintain torque on a stock, or lightely modded mustang.
As for a chip, it will do nothing for you on a stock mustang, and if you are gonna get one once you mod your car, get a custom burned one. ------------------ 90LX AOD Convertable: Lakewood control arms, FMS springs.
