Post Can a 69 lower the upper control arm?

I have allways seen the 1 in. lowering of the upper control arms on older mustangs and was wondering can it be done on mine?

you can lower the upper control arm on any mustang up to 1970. Dropping it one inch will improve the camber gain on turns. As the wheel compresses into the wheel well, the tire will gain negative camber, rather than positive camber in stock form. This will improve your cornering power. The change may be slight on the street, but very noticable on autocross or track.

Go for it Clark. I went with the Negative Wedge kit from Pro Motorsports and lowered mine a whopping 1 3/4". You can't go that far without the wedge kit because the balljoints would bind up.

I've made a lot of changes to the car over the years, and it handles a lot better, but the Neg. Wedge kit has made the biggest change to me. Lowering 1" as is very commom, is a cheaper, and effective change. The 1" lowering trick is basically free and although it doesn't really give you a negative camber curve, it does reduce the amount of positive curve greatly. This will keep the tires flatter around the turns, and you can notice it on the street. I really like the way my car bites into the turns now, it feels like it wants to change direction instead of plowing straight ahead.

I drove a relatives new 99 Trans Am a couple of weeks ago, and rammed it through some s-curves that I run all the time in my old Stang, and I was surprised to find that the tires started squealing at the same speed as mine. I should handle better when I'm done.

I also have seen the template, but where do you get one? I will be replacing the whole front end and this will be a great opportunity to do this mod.

I'm not SURE about this one, but you might try calling Tony Branda, or some of the other old Mustang shops for the template. I don't know, maybe even Dallas Mustang.
